Three shadowy creatures stalked through Ebony's tower. They went unnoticed for whenever another creature passed they would hide still in the shadows, because of their only semi-visible nature and black coloring it was as though they were part of the shadow's themselves. Indeed all their darkness covered them and the light only passed through them. They moved as a team with a purpose, their jaws moved silently at times with words unspoken. The only sound they made was a quiet hiss while they moved.

Ebony was cunning. She placed wards and such around her tower. Everything was perfect to the point of there never being an absence of a fluctuation of magic. Yet even that flow could not detect the shadows. It went on flawlessly as they seemed to slip right under or through the cracks in the protection spells.
Still the black dragoness would not be unprotected. Nor would her top servants. Nor would Gaulroach. Whoever the team planned to kill would be a difficult target. Ebony always made sure of that. Especially in such delicate times, she was ready for murderers. Even as she napped on her bed, her senses were aware. Her room had wards to keep magic in. Any disturbance on her druidic power would of course wake her immediately. The question: Would it be enough?

The shadows stopped outside her room. Ebony, like Gaulroach, didn't seem to post door guards. After all dragon leaders were often very powerful in comparison to human leaders. The shadows seemed to slip right through the crack under her door and into her room.

The disturbance came. The lines of the floorboards seemed to illuminate a bright forest green. Runes blazed into existance. Ebony's red eyes snapped open and she growled. Her tail lashed back and forth, calculatingly. The deadly scythe on the end glimmered in the light of the magic. While she could not see the shadows she knew they were there. Assassinations depended on surprise and surely they had lost the element. Or had they? Ebony was strong but she couldn't handle a team of killers on her own. Still time would tell if she would hold her own. Those foretelling the future knew she was unlikely to give up until the forest around her tower consumed it. The day would never come.

The shadows knew they had lost that surprise. It was then they took physical form. Dragons with scales so dark they all blended in together and it'd be hard to pick out any one. Their talons and teeth were all jet black as well. The only thing that stood out on them was their bright yellow eyes. They had tails that split apart into two bladed ends, and even their wings had large scyth like talons on the 'thumb'. The three hissed and moved to surround her.

Jumping to her feet, Ebony remained backed up into the corner of the room where her bed was. She had enough room to move but they would have to come rather close to strike her. Plus tactfully there was no way to surround her. The level of magic in the room rose as her druid skills doubled back on themselves. True she could not pick apart her tree tormentors from the way they were built but she knew enough to defend herself.
~Gaulroach. Assassins. I have yet to see if I'll need help. Be prepared if I do.~ she sent him. It didn't matter how weak he was at the moment. At the very least she trusted him with her life.
Keep your friends close but your enemies closer... she thought silently to herself as the trio approached. Her body tensed in the familiar battle-ready way she adored. This would be interesting.

~I am still some distance away, and at my strength I don't think I'll be able to open a portal that far... I will send help though.~ Gaulroach replied back.
The shadowy dragons toher sides would atleast manage to flank her. The one in the front was the first to act first, he jumped forward and lashed out with his tails like the stinger of a scorpion.

~Good.~ Came her simple final response. Then she severed the contact. She needed her concentration. Then the battle began.
Her reflexes were immediate. When the creature lashed out she reached up with a stroke of her tail tip. The spike's flat side blocked the stinger. After that she twisted and flicked. An ordinary being would be off balance from it, possibly staggering sideways. Ebony, however, didn't believe they were normal. How else would they have gotten past her magics and into the tower?

The creature flipped in the air, it then seem to turn into a thick black smoke that flew away from her a bit and reformed on its feet as the dragon again. The other two took the chance to rush at her at the same time from her sides. Claws outstretched. There was a bang on her door, and another as if something was trying to get in but didn't have the strength to open the dragon sized doors. Slowly though they started to open, the one unengaged Shadow turned its attention towards the door.

"Ah so this is what you are?" Ebony asked the shadows. Her voice held no fear but no amusement. Her mind was unsure now. She lost her edge of confidence.
She spared only a fleeting glance at the door. Being engaged in battle meant she had no chance to go open it. Still vines burst forth from the floor and latched onto the door's handles. They pulled it open. She hoped whoever- or whatever- they were meant to help her and not her adversaries.
The ones coming from the sides were close by a split second. Once more her reflexes reacted. More vines rose up and speared through their stomachs- if they had them. She snarled and raised her own claws, ready.

The shadow dragons hissed in pain, but all the same they did not bleed. Like the other those two changed into smoke and reformed a small bit away from where they had been impaled. At the door was a single human sized warrior in dark armor. The runes cared into his spiked platemail were glowing deep red. In one had he held a large runed axe and in the other a similar flail. "Lord Gaulroach sends his regards." The man hissed in a dry voice like wind in dead leaves. His red eyes were glowing from within a helmet, red eyes and nothing else. The frontal shadow dragon did not hesitate and went at him. As it neared it attempted to snap the man up in its great jaws. The warrior sidestepped out of the way, his sword however slashing out and tearing through the creature's cheek and leaving a faint red glow where it had struck. "Magic Ebony. Natural vines no matter how controlled will not harm them. Only magic can dispell these demons."

Magic. So that was the key? For once she decided to follow the command of another other than herself. The vines fell away. She spared no energy for them. They were useless and withered, falling dead as brown husks on the floor.
In the mean time an energy swirled behind her gaze. She knew magic. It knew her. They were eternal partners in the dance of daily life. So she called upon it, pulling it from the very air of the room, and it came to her.
Ebony smirked. Her tail spike swept sideways. Green and brown patterns interlaced over the surface of the scythe. Direct battle magic wasn't her thing but it would work. Her claws glowed as well with the same designs.

The demon approached Shade and tried to claw him, but the warrior swung his mace and it connected with a talon, forcing the creature to take a step back and leaving another red mark.
One of the other demons growled and went at Ebony again, the spikes on its wings striking forward.

Her tail struck lightning fast, coming down in an almost axe-like movement. It would be skull-splitting... if they were normal opponents. Concentration flashed across Ebony's features. She looked older for a moment. Was her beauty an illusion broken by action or was it just the observer's eyes lingering too long while there was other things to view?
She jumped forward. It was time to leave the corner. Her claws flashed in several sweeps, crossing each other intricately. If the tail didn't do damage on the demon her claws would.

Shade swung his flail in a wide arc above his head, for the most part it kept the shadowy beast back for if it even attempted to strike it would surely be struck in return. It certainly didn't seem accustomed to such a small opponent being so dangerous, and neither to the pain that was being inflicted on it.
The demon she struck hissed and the areas harmed began to glow on its shadowy form. It attempted to turn into a shadowy gas and escape from her but as it tried the gas turned into a thick and smelly black liquid and fell to a puddle on the floor. The other demon scrieched something frantically to the demon being held off by Shade.
