(This is a piece of something I am Writing for Venus, but I thought it would be good to explain a bit about the Hellkites [my creation] to the rest of you)
Time passes on indefinitely, as does life and souls. A soul cannot be destroyed, only reshaped. Souls pass on to the spirit world where they wait for a time before they are pulled back and reshaped into a new being. Some races call this reincarnation. Sometimes a soul is entrapped, 'devoured' by mysterious creatures or held by magic, where it will sit until eventually set free when that creature be destroyed or magic dispelled. When a soul returns from the spiritual to physical all memories and experiences are erased as it becomes a new being, there is one case where this does not occur.
Such beings are few and far between, not many know of them and not much is known about them even by those aware. It is believed they were all originally made at the same time, and that the same number has never changed, though it is not known just how many that is. They are unexplainably drawn to each other and while rare they will likely at different times in their lives encounter others even if they don't know it. These beings known as Hellkites are souls that unlike others when they die simply disappear from existence for a random period of time before their reincarnation occurs. Unlike other souls the power and memories from past lives remains hidden within them, to possibly eventually awaken and reveal their reincarnation's unknown potential. The Hellkites to knowledge only occur in the race of dragons.
When the Hellkite takes a new form it is usually similar to that of its past forms, such things as general body shape and scale color are most prominent. It is doubtful whether gender ever changes, though personality can widely vary. Hellkites have played many roles in their lives whether hero or villain, but fate itself twists around them and they always lead to something significant.
It is unknown whether certain Hellkites are stronger than others, but some seem to naturally strengthen in certain magic easier than others, and some awaken earlier than others.
Hellkites have an unbelievable amount of power and most only ever wake a small sliver of it, as they age not only does the Dragon's own power grow but the Hellkite has more time to gain control of his potential. Hellkites of considerably short lives, in comparison to most dragons, because fate constantly throws them against all sorts of obstacles including the other Hellkites.
The name of a Hellkite is significant and they often twist fate around them in a way that has that name used again. At the moment I only know for certain of the existence of four Hellkites, and their names are as thus. Crimson. Nyrakk. Galena. Isandre.
I know the names of all three's hosts, and the fourth is within myself. I doubt any of the others suspect that I myself am one, that is good as it allows me to throw attention off of myself for it would give me many new enemies.
I will continue to record my thoughts like this in runes of a long forgotten language so that only I may look upon them and remember what might otherwise be lost in the passage of reincarnation and time. They will always be here for me to find them, located in these deep underground passages even if what is above collapses.
