Distant cousins of dragons. Wyverns have wings but only the back pair of feet (unlike dragons who have full four). They are shaped more like a hunting bird than a cat, and their tails end in scorpion like barbs.
Traditional Wyverns are stupid creatures (a step above beasts but not at the level of dragons). They are intelligent enough to have their own language but do not use it for very much except to exclaim their strongest emotions (moments of anger, fear, lust). Their stingers can inject a dangerous venom that can prove dangerous to a large creature such as a dragon and fatal to anything human sized. Their scales tend to be dull grays and browns.
They are smaller than dragons and usually run from a conflict with anything bigger than themselves unless they have enough allies to put things in their favor. They live in flocks like birds, choosing mountain terrain always, though tending to stay away from places that smell too much like dragons.
Wyverns do not nearly live as long as dragons, rarely living longer than Two Hundred.
Silver Wyverns are smarter and larger than their cousins, and surprisingly more peaceful. It is believed they are the true race of Wyverns and that their more numerous cousins are those who's dragon blood has diluted much too far. Many of them are silver scaled as their name suggests but like are known to have scales of many shiny metallic colors.
They speak a higher developed version of the Wyvern language, more similar to Draconic (continuing the belief that they are the middle ground of blood between dragons and Wyverns). And many learn to speak Draconic.
Their stingers do not develop venom, and as such have evolved to become more of scythed blades. They live about as long as the first thousand years.
Mad Wyverns were a specially bred group created by Gaulroach. On average they are larger and more brutally vicious than the traditional wyvern, but have also been bred to fear their master and his servants.
They are stronger, faster, and more determined killers. The venom from their stingers is more toxic and their scales are darker going from burgundy to black.
Related to Wyverns, a Delver resides only in the Spirit Realm. It is true they can pass into the physical world (and often times to) to attack their enemies, but since the energy amount it takes to hold shape there is difficult to manage they make swift strikes then retreat once more. The simplest way to describe them is mangled.
When a Wyvern dies in the physical world, their spirit naturally passes on. Some believe they have no soul so the Delvers are an issue between the two clashing ideas. In any case they exist to do one thing: hate the light.
In the day they hide in the caves on their section of the Spirit Realms, a mostly peaceful place for the dead who do not pass to Charon's domain or to wherever they go to reside. While the light coming off of the White Waterfall does not generally reach them, this does not stop them in their constant hatred of it. Rage is usually the target of their anger as he is a Moon Dragon. (Though he often deters them quite easily with a little magic.)
Ever since it can be remembered, the horribly mangled black spirits have hated the Moon Dragons. It is not that it is in the nature of a Delver to hate the Clan itself, it is what they represent. The healing magic of the Moon Dragons is strong but it cannot help a Delver in their horrible injuries (usually a Delver is impossible to recognize as a Wyvern except to those who know). Also, the moon is something that creates light even in the shadows. This is something unacceptable by Delver logic. (If they have logic.)
