{Guess who's back! Well, for a short while during break, at least. Please excuse the long post - this one's kind of important to read since it sets the scene for later on, and will hopefully give you an idea of how Venus + Isandre are feeling at the mo after what they found out. Dun dun dun! So like I said, bear with me and have a read through it. Any questions, let me know. Ta!}
It had been a longer flight than normal, a blue dragoness mused to herself as she floated almost lazily above the forested terrain.
But then again, her time investigating the island had given her much - well, nearly overmuch - to think on. And most of it, she grimaced, wasn't exactly that pleasant.
The bright glow of the markings had faded as she drew further away from the island, but the outlines were still there, lingering like ashen memory. Venus hadn't the heart to brush them away with a spell. She would simply wait until the perceived danger faded, and the marks buried themselves in their ancient magic cloak again.
The day was dull, with clouds cloaking the sun in a misty embrace. Probably a good thing - scaleburn wasn't something she felt like dealing with right now.
It surprised her, how rationally she appeared to be dealing with this... delicate situation. The Venus of before would probably have been kicking and screaming, railing against the hand which Fate had decided to present to her. Either that or she'd decide that the spiral into depression and neglect was too tempting for her to ignore.
Maybe it was because she was older. Or wiser. Or just less naive.
Maybe it was a good thing...
Or maybe not.
Shaking off the introspection, Venus picked up the pace, leisurely flaps turning into more determined sweeps, cutting through the air like a blade.
She had to let her friends know the truth about what was going on, what she had been told.
Isandre too, had to be told of what had happened. Whether or not she'd heard the conversation between her and this... Esmeya in the shrine remained to be seen. If she had, Venus couldn't help but wonder what impact it would have had on the hellkite, if any.
She grinned to herself, humming. Isandre probably wouldn't be one to take this sitting down. She could foresee quite a number of arguments taking place between them in the near future.
Ah well, Venus reasoned. She needed somewhere to vent her frustration at this whole thrice damnable situation anyway, and why not at someone she couldn't exactly harm?
Her thoughts turned to how she was going to explain herself, both her absence and what she had learned. A frown marred her brow.
She's just have to be... creative. Yes, creative was the word.
Becoming lazy again, Venus rolled on to her back among the clouds, allowing the gusting breeze to fill her wings and keep her aloft. Staring at the emerging sun, she squinted.
If by chance this was to be her last summer, then she was going to enjoy it. Decisive, she smiled as she soaked up the warmth of the rays, scales gleaming into rainbow in the white light.
Yes, she would enjoy it.
After a few minutes of hanging in the air, she flipped over again to resume her flight. Black Claw Mountain would soon be in sight.
Predicting that Serrion would still be busy with Sheakria, Venus mulled over going straight to Talana to explain first.
Considering, maybe it would be easier to tell every at once. So, she'd have to wait to reveal Rafael's origins, as well as her possible fate.
For a strange, surreal moment, Venus wondered if she'd make a good seal.
No - first, she'd head to speak with Talana. It would be best if the elder knew a rough outline before she tried to explain to everyone else...
~Venus.~
Ah. And there lay the second problem.
~Hey Isandre.~
~You know what I did?~
~Yes. I do.~
~I wish I still couldn't remember. Ignorance really is bliss.~
~I know. I know.~
Silence, for a moment. And then:
~I don't want to die like that again.~
Venus winced as the hellkite's insecure tone echoed though her mind. Isandre must be rattled, if she was allowing her worry to show.
~Don't know what you're complaining about! At least you'll come back afterwards!~
Her nonchalant tone was meant to reassure, but Venus felt the sting of Isandre's disapproval and pain as if it were her own.
~Stop it, Venus. You know very well what I'm talking about. I didn't want to do it the first time, and I won't do it again.~
The blue dragoness sighed, shutting her eyes as she whirled through a cloud, ignoring the condensed water coating her scales.
~Yes you will. Because you know that it's the right thing to do.~
~But...~
~Isandre, for someone who's eons older than I am, you're being extraordinarily childish. Yes, we're probably going to die. You'll come back, and it'll all be fine.~
~But it'll just happen all over again! Circles, Venus, I'll just keep going in circles!~
Another silence.
In a heavy voice, Venus murmured aloud,
"Maybe it's better this way, though. We're wanderers Isandre - I don't think we're meant to settle down, or anything like that. Who knows?"
In the silence of her mind, Isandre snarled.
~But I want to! Not once have I had the chance to just sit back and enjoy watching the passage of time! I've always been moving, doing something, fighting someone... and I just want to rest. I'm tired, Venus. Tired of it all - not having somewhere that I can call home, or something solid I can cling on to when I feel like I'm just going to get swept away!~
Venus snorted, smiling ruefully. ~I know. Time must do that to you, I guess...~
Quiet reigned again.
~Let's go and speak to everyone then. We'll finish this conversation later.~
~Alright.~
In a blink, Venus shot forwards, seeing the peak of Black Claw Mountain peeking through the clouds. Steeling herself, she landed, disappearing inside.
