Landing with a gentle scuffle in yet another clearing, Venus folded her wings with a heavy sigh.
Like she had told Nerinda, it had been a long night.
Feeling weariness beginning to permeate her bones, she settled down against a sturdy tree and curled up, tucking her head alongside a folded wing.
It was strange... she always felt tired recently, when before she could go for days on end without having to sleep.
Yet another worry.
~What's happening, Isandre?~ she questioned, appealing for any comfort or information the hellkite could give.
~I don't know, Venus. I don't know.~
Venus shut her eyes. Worrying wouldn't do her any good, nor would brooding. Sleep was the best option now, and she could concern herself with other things when the sun rose.
Maybe the dawn would cast a new light on things...
So she slept.
And dreamt.
A dark, bleak cavern, walls oppressing, inclosing, claustrophobic. Too close. Too many in one space.
Yes, there were too many. One, two, three figures and yet another, one there and one not. She could sense it, but it wasn't anything she'd every felt before, except...
And suddenly, all hell broke loose. Screams and words and roars and the scent of tears in the still air. Darkness, even more close than those horrible walls.
But then a cool breeze, washing over her senses as a familiar presence joined the fray. Some sort of power building, but nothing like she'd ever felt. This wasn't magic, this was more. It was... draining. That's what it was. Draining.
PAIN. Out of the blue, so much pain, too much pain but at the same time not enough for what she was about to do...
It poured out of her like water into the sea, that power, and she was washed away along with it, though she felt no peace, no peace in the rushing of the wave, only sorrow...
Jerking awake, Venus pressed herself against the rough bark of the tree, feeling it chafe her hide and not really caring, eyes wide and nostrils flared.
What in the name of all the Gods was going on?
Feeling more fear than she had in a very long while, Venus stayed unmoving looking into the middle distance.
Maybe sleep wasn't such a good idea.
