A shaft of warm sunlight wormed its way through the failing stones of the temple, falling down on the dragoness who was currently slumped against the shrine alter.
Venus blinked and screwed up her eyes.
Next time, she shouldn't fly too far and too fast in one go. Especially after nearly being disembowled by a mad enemy.
Lesson learnt.
Leaning back further, she stretched out her tired limbs and blew out a breath.
It wouldn't hurt to just drift awhile...
~Venus? Venus! Listen, I don't know what's going on but I can't talk to you - what's going on??~
~...Isandre? M'sleep leave me be...~
~Venus, you're dreaming. I'm guessing that's why I can speak with you.~
A sigh.
~Look, you need to find out what's blocking our link. And soon. I'm not having you do anything rash without me being there to stop you!~
~M'kay Isandre...~
Venus jerked to wakefulness as she felt something sharp pressed against her neck.
Pushing back she landed on all fours atop the stone shine table behind her, wings raised and teeth bared.
The figure in front of her was hooded, its features obscured by the coarse material. A wicked blade was slipped back into a long sleeve, and the thing looked up, still invisible beneath the hood.
"My lord and master Hrafn'motaelam grants the dragoness formerly known as Venusevdarielestarisandrelam an audience to speak with him on friendly terms about a truce regarding the current situation."
Venus snarled again, the threat rumbling from her lungs.
"You dare ask me to speak with him of all people after pressing a knife to my throat? Who are you anyway?"
"I, Devades, am of no importance. But you, the former Amirah, will accompany me now. It is in your best interests."
"Former, eh? My title was never revoked. And how would you know the slightest about my 'interests', hm?"
The sarcasm in her voice oozed into the air.
Devades shrugged.
"It is your choice. But my master will not be pleased to hear that you have rejected his most generous offer..."
Venus lowered her wings, but remained on guard, thinking rapidly to turn the offer to her advantage.
Finally, she spoke.
"I will meet with him on neutral territory. And make it known that if another attempt is made on my life, I won't take it sitting down."
The servant nodded once, and a blink later he was gone.
Venus sighed and sat back, relaxing again.
'I wonder how this one will turn out then... Maybe I can find out more about this murderer.'
