Aloha
Got bored, so was wondering if anyone fancied giving a new idea of mine a trial run...? It's sort of a cross between mediaeval and fantasy and mythical creatures if you like.
Sounds familiar, I know, but hey, I have a setting!
So I'll post that, and see if any of you guys are interested:
It is the year of our lady 1211. The capital city of Hovedstad is bustling in all its festive winter glory. The landed gentry are enjoying numerous balls, feasts and social events, while the peasants, shunned creatures and unfortunate hybrids are having a dismal time living in the streets, or in dishevelled properties found by luck.
The date is the second of December ~ the day of the long-awaited Winter Festival. The event is much anticipated throughout the year by all.
The barons, baronessess, dukes, duchesses, lords and ladies are preparing to show off to each other in the monetary sweepstakes, while the poor and the outcast are just looking forward to a good time.
The morning has dawned, crisp and clear with a swift breeze, and a light dusting of snow.
A wave of rumours and gossip has rushed through the city streets and the castle homesteads both, that the most powerful being in the city, and therefore the land, is going to be gracing them with her presence on this, the day of days in the Hovedstad calender.
The square at the centre of the city has been draped with cheery candles, and there is mulled wine and rich delicacies aplenty for those who can afford it.
For those who can't, there is of course the alternative of stealing, but there is also a cheaper selection of foods {mostly mouldy} and drinks.
The square of St. Goddard is the place to be on this day, with stalls, tables and displays of all shapes and sizes, selling a variety of essential and non-essential goods, at various different prices.
A Christmas auction has also been set up for the benefit of those with the more....refined taste in quality items.
The middle section of the square has been clearing to form a semblance of a ballroom floor, and a band is playing Christmas music, waltzes, jigs, and marches.
The centre of this makeshift ballroom is dominated by a large carved statue, decoratively draped in lights made by an especially talented glassworker ~ a simple mesh cage coated in coloured glass, each containing a candle.
These lights are also draped in other places, across walls, wound around the metal posts holding up marquees and canopy-covered stalls alike.
The sun is just rising upon the Winter Festival, and some adventurous stallholders are already setting up, ready for a day of brisk trading and good humour.
Carriages can be heard trundling along from afar, bearing their much esteemed patrons.
Soon, the Festival will be underway ~ the one day when all are treated with equality.
Well, nearly all.
I tried this out on my other board xD It's quite open ended for you to be anything you feel like really, but I'm sure something...interesting will happen to disrupt the festival, right?
