The DarkScaled
Prolog. Black Scales under a Bloody Gem
The sun rose into the sky, over a horizon of forested mountains. All sorts of birds let out their chirps and calls now that is was their time to fly the skies of this rather peacefull area. But it was not just the birds that made their song, and flew on the blue sky. Now, rizing with the sun were dragons... Great roars of waking came threw the mountains, as the dragons of this land greeted the warm embrace of the sun. Great scaled creatures with leathery wings took flight and commanded these skies, all entire sorts of colors they were, it was a sight to behold. A sight that very few of the human race were privilaged to see, as no human town had been built within a mile of this dragon clan's home terratory. Around maybe a hundread dragons lived here, even though it might seem insane that such a number of creatures sized thusly could survive in one area, their territory spanned a very wide area and the forests fertility was amazing so no creature died out and none were preyed on too heavily. As dragons could easily sustain themselves on plants just as they could with meat. A dragon was a strange creature, that is in comparison with any other being known to human, elf or dragon. They resembeld cats in a way, as the way they walked and their bodies were shaped more feline than lizard like. Though they were no doubt reptillian, whether truly reptile or just sharing a few common trates such as scales and the long reptillian tail. While above the dragons shoulders sprout their leathery wings, stretching out with long "fingures" of bone that support the wings. All this generally represented the basic appearence of a dragon, though like the human race there is a variety of ways one could look. Between dragons, they would vary in appearence when it came to color of scales, tail lengths, wings size and shape, and the placement of horns and barbs. The name of this clan was the GreyHorned Dragons, they had heeald this territory for thousands of years and were proud of holding out against humans, invading wyvern colonies and other such annoyances. The clan was a rather peaceful group of dragons, though very strict of any other creature that tried to settle in the area, any dragon not of the clan were persuaded to leave, if non of the clan were interested in "marrying" the stranger and absorbing them into the clan. The current clan leader was Narderax, he was a Silver scaled dragon, both his parents having been members of the clan. Narderax was fairly strict of a clan elder, but he also was kind and fair. Narderax had also taken a mate, a blueish black female named Dernya. Dernya was a stranger to the clan, she came to them in the night, half dead and barely holding on. The victem of a wyvern attack, the clan took pity on her and brought her in for healing. It was not long before the elder took an interest in her and they went through the mating ritual. Dernya was welcomed into the clan and seen as a fellow member. Even though no one really knew any of Dernya's past, no one really cared, most of the females in the clan thought it was good Narderax had finally taken a mate. Most had also heard Dernya had even layed an egg. Though she was feircely protective and didn't lat any other dragon, besides her mate, see it. Each dragon family had a cave in one of the mountain's sides, most only accessable from flight. All the caves, from which ever mountain, all faced towards where the sun rised and the main meeting area of the clan. The clearest area, just soft grass with no trees to block the sun, was a circle that could fit the entire clan if necisary. Multiple dragon were in the clearing, of all genders and ages, even a few small ones ran around chasing rabbits through the long grass. In the center of the field stood the clan elder speaking with a few other dragons. Narderax had brilliant shining silver scales, reflecting the morning light. His wings were large and matched his size, and his tail was twice the size of his body, it neatly curled up around his legs. Spines ran down his back and the horns on the sides of his hed twisted right back along his head. His eyes shined blue and held intelligence with kindness. He was speaking currently with the other, lesser elders of the clan and discussing matters concerning the teachings of the young ones of the clan. Hours passed by the day, Narderax had other meetings with the clam members. He brought food and water to his mate, for she spent every hour in their cave, watching their egg. Soon dusk fell and the sky was black, clouds blocked out the moon and a strong downpour flattened the grass. All the dragons were safe from the rain and in their caves, except Narderax, who only now entered his cave. He spread and shook his wings free of the water. He walked over to his mate and started to greet her, when she just shushed him. Her scales were a beutiful dark blue that shined even in this dull light. B She had no horns on her head, but long spines ran all the way down her back. Her wings were average sized, and he tail was averaged sized for a dragon as well. Though her wings were beutiful, they curved and spread, shining a slghtly lighter blue than her body. Dernya was a fair bit a smaller dragon than her mate, him being within his sevenhundreads, and her estimated only in her two hundreads, though her exact age was unknown to even her mate and just like her past she kept it to herself. Her eyes shined a beutiful gold. Dernya lifted her left wing and revield the object hidden behind it. It was an egg, though very big, larger than any bird or reptile egg, yet it was much like some large reptile egg. The egg was an deep obsidian, with veins of light silver running through it. Dernya lightly tapped the egg with her muzzle, and a little wiggle was given from the egg in return. Narderax's eyes widened and he layed down by the egg as well, watching the small object as it continued to wiggle iin shake. He leaned his head over and nuzzled his mates neck lovingly, she gave a kind smile in return. The egg tipped over at there was the sound of cracking. Small cracks ran throught the surface of the egg, small pieces begain to push outwards and fall on the ground. Enough of the egg shell had fallen away so they could see movement from inside of the egg. Dernya again lightly nudged the egg with her muzzle, pushing awway a few pieces of shell that seemed to be giving the Hatchling trouble. The rain outside seemed to come down harder, lightning flashed and thunder boomed, there was a small squeel from the little dragon still in it's egg. But anouther encouraging nudge from it's mother got it back into breaking free. The hatchling pushed aside all the shells and broke free onto the stone ground of the cave floor. The dragon, as a hatchling resembled an adult dragon in all respects, but it's head and feet were a little large for it's size, and the tail was just a bit short. It's scales were black just like it's egg, though maybe a bit shinier. The dragon had no real spines or horns growing out of it, and it's claws were only dulled stubs, but all those would grow with age. The hatchling eyes were a very light red in color. It looked up at it's parents with wide eyes, it was a male dragon "His scales are so black..." Narderax murmured to his mate. "There has never been a black scaled dragon born of our clan for longer than we hold record." Dernya smiled up at him. "Yes but perhaps he takes after my blood." Her mate nodded. "Yes, he would have to. But still, our clan is of strong blood." Dernya took out her wing and slid the little dragon closer to her body. The hatchling gave a small squeel in surprise from being slid like that, but cuddled even closer to hís mother. "Perhaps this means something, for his scales to be this color. He just needs a fitting name to go along with his remarkable scales. They are shaped like a humans daggers, you can see if you look close." Narderax lowered his head to to ground to look the hatchling in the eyes, who returned his stare wide eyed and confused. The clan elder glanced his mates direction again. "Do you have any name in mind for our hatchling?" A smile crept to Dernya's lips. The rain seemed to dull as clouds moved aside to reveal the full and glowing moon. A deep tinge of red went across the moon's surface, a deep red glow went all across the clan territory and into the cave, though none seemed to notice except maybe the newly hatched. Dernya put the tip of her muzzle on her child's and turned his head to look up to her. "I will name you, my son, Gaulroach." The little dragon shivered at this name, and it's eyes once again wandered to the cave door, where the red glow dissapeared as the moon once again hid behind the screen of clouds. Even though it was just hatched, and did not understand much, that name stuck in his head. Gaulroach...

Chapter 1 The Family's Blood
Once more in the forested mountains, just as the sun was in it's highest point of the sky. The clan was active once more, each and every dragon going about what they had been used to. A small black dragon ran in the forest, dodging inbetween trees and over fallen logs. The dragon was the very same black scaled hatchling that had been born that 5 years ago. Gaulroach, the name he had used these five years, but for some reason it still gave him terrible shivers whenever he heard it. Gaulroach was five years old now, that may have been a very young child to a human, very vulnerable. To dragons he was very much still a hatchling. Gaulroach was still a child who needed to be watched and protected from harm by the more dangerous creatures and dragons, yet old enough to hunt on his own, so even the youngest dragon was not that vulnerable. Dragons were very intelligent beings, and Gaulroach was no exception, even if his intelligence was no where near his parents, he still was smart enough to make decisions and even think some things through more than most humans. Yet even at this intelligence, young dragons still enjoyed things like catching rabbits and squirls, chasing their tails, and gnawing on different objects just to see how it tasted, and young dragons even acted a lot like humans of their age even if they did have the ability to think clearly through things. Gaulroach zipped underneath a bush then narrowly escaping hitting a tree as he chased the small furry animal. He was not sure what it was, he wasn't sure if he had seen it before. It wasn't a rabbit as it didn't have big enough ears, not a squirl because it didn't have as big a tail, was was too small to be a groundhog, a little too big for a mouse, not long enough for a weesle, and wasn't a rat either, as it's tail did have fur. The fuzzy thing turned a corner and by the time he had gotten to said corner, it was gone. He stopped where he was and sniffed the air for signs of that fuzzy thing. He smelled the signs of other dragons having been in the area before, all around him he could smell plants, rabbits, deer, wolves and all kinds of animals that had been here before, but he couldn't catch the scent of that certain animal. Disspointed, he begain on his way home. His head was low and he would be seen as sulking, that really was enough of a dissapointment to make an small dragon that sad. But the crunch of a twig brought his hopes up again, he sniffed the air and smelled something new. A few of whatever it was. Two new creatures came out of the bushes towards him, they were strange mammals. They had no fur over their bodies, just a bit of it on the top of their heads, one of the two had some on his face around his mouth. No, Gaulroach could see mostly their flesh, which was an odd pinkish color that he was used to seeing when ever any mammal had the fur removed from their body. These creatures also walked differently, with their front legs in the air and only their back legs keeping them up. They also had no tail that he could see, at least from here. They seemed to be covered by something that smelled sort of like other animals, but a lot like nothing in particular. The strange pink things approached him slowly and Gaulroach noticed on the shoulder of one was that fuzzy thing he had been chasing. A low growl sort of went in his throught. "That's my fuzzy thing!" He hissed at the pink things and bared his teeth. They seemed to look at each other and then to the fuzzy thing on the one's shoulder. That one seemed to scratch behind the creature's triangular ears in order to sooth it or something like that. They seemed to be speaking with eachother in words that didn't make sense to Gaulroach. So they were smart pink things, but what were they really? One of them knealt down to look Gaulroach eye to eyes, but not the one with the fuzzy thing so he was dissapointed, he would have jumped the fuzzy thing had the pink things given him the chance. "Actually small dragon, that 'fuzzy thing' is ours. It is our pet, we call iit a cat." He spoke slowly to Gaulroach, this time he was speaking with the words that Gaulroach understood. "My cat!" He hissed at the pink thing. "I saw it and I chased it here. You can't have it." That seemed to make the pink things laugh. "Sorry but we already own it. We caught this cat a long time ago, you'll have to find your own." Gaulroach frowned and looked down slightly. He had wanted that fuzzy thing, a cat as they called it. But he looked back up at them again, cheerng up as he had a load of questions to ask these pink things, curiosity was something all young dragons had a lot of. Even older dragons had some amount of curiosity with new things. "What are you then?" He asked them, his tail going wild behind him with excitement. "Well we are what are called humans. we-." Gaulroach did not let them finish. He had heard about humans before. All the dragons in the clan said they were silly creatures that built towns and living areas outside the clan territory. They said the humans were nearly harmless creatures, at least the ones living nearby and that long ago the clan and these humans agreed to peace. But Gaulroach's mom said different, she said all humans were bad and terribly monsters that would kill a dragon if given the chance, and that they would trick and kill Gaulroach if he let them. Gaulroach always went withh what his mother said, he felt closer to her than anyone, and would go with her wishes even if it crossed with what his father and even the whole clan said. Gaulroach hissed at them and opened his mouth, dragons were known to breath fire and use it as their strongest weapon. Aparently the humans knew this and drew large metal objects known as shields. The humans placed these shields infront of them and braced for Gaulroach's attack, his mother had been right, they had been ready too kill him. Though beside his scales, Gaulroach really was more different than the other dragons besides flame. Instead of intence flames, what came from Gaulroach's belly was a blast of acid! The humans cried out in pain as the acid hit their shields. Even though the shields took most of the splash, even the tiniest drop brought terrible pain to these humans flesh. By the time the humans dropped their half melted and uses shields, Gaulraoch was gone.
Fernen swore as he wiped the burning drop off his face, it left a horrible scar even when gone. "Damnit Tharn, I thought you said the dragons here were a peaceful bunch?" He asked the other human in their own language "They are." The other, aparently Tharn, said back. "Maybe we just scared the little guy. I mean, he was already pretty upset that he couldn't have your cat." Tharn paused for a second. "I'd like to apologize to the little guy for scaring him so bad..." "Apologize!" Fernen snapped. "What for? Being too fast for him to melt us?!?" "He's only a little guy." Tharn told him. "He doesn't know much better, brobably doesn't that such things hurt us a lot mmore than his own species." He paused for a moment. "But maybe... Narry, if she's here, would be the only one who would hate us outright. So that dragon could be anouther of her children..." "Spawn more like it." The other growled. "Well she is here for sure. Let's take her down and ther child, he probably has already been tainted by her. That other one, in the blood dragons' clan only had her nearby for two years, he's the only one who hasn't been tainted by her. But this one should be about twelve years with his mother, it's too late for him." Tharn nodded. "I'm affraid your right. Poor dragon..." But what neither knew, was that the dragoon they were hunting was right behind them...
Gaulroach ran strate in the direction of his familys cave. None of the older dragons glanced his way as it was very normal to see a little dragon at top speed in any which way. Even when that dragon seemed fairly upset, they all knew it was common for a little dragon too push an animal too far and then get bitten on the paw, or to accidently fall in the pond and get surprisingly wet, or to hit their head on something or other. Gaulroach kept going, it had taken him a near five minutes of running to get here, flying would have taken him near no time, but he was not much of a flier yet. But he was well enough that he hould beat his wings and fly right up to his familys cave. "Mom!" He was yelling as he ran deep into their cave at top speed. "Mom! Mom! Mom-" He slid to a stop as he saw her lying there just watching him. His father lying unmoving on the other side of the cave. His mother smelled of human blood and his father's blood. "Mom..." He whispered quietly, he was terribly scared. Scared worse than before. "Shhh..." She hushed him. "Come over here everything is alright." Gaulroach looked over at his unmoving father again. "He's alright too Gaulroach. Just sleeping." Gaulroach whimpered and came over to his mother, curling up beside her like a cat. She shushed again and nuzled his neck and body lightly, trying to calm him. "We're going to have to leave son. It's not safe here any longer. I had too..." She looked at the floor, seeming quite sad, Gaulroach could see a tear. "I had to hurt your father so he couldn't stop us. He woulld have tried, then they would have killed him. This way he'll only hurt for awhile. But he won't be dead." She looked down at her son and nuzzled his neck again. "Climb on my back Gaulroach. We have a long fly ahead of us." Gaulroach nodded and did as he was told, quickly climbing up her side and onto her back, he curled up neatly in the hollowish spot inbetween her wings. He closed his eyes and tried not to think about leaving his father like this. About leaving all the kind dragons of his clan. He was so focussed in his saddness and keeping his mind blank, that he did not even notice when hhis mother stood up, or when she beat her mighty wings and rose into the sky...
His eye lids flickered when he felt his mother land. Opening his eyes, he saw it was just sunset. No, sunrise! He had slept all the way through the rest of the day and into the end of the night. He saw unfamiliar land around him, his mother had landed in some strange rocky mountainland. Not many trees around really, there was strange rocks lying all over the place and standing with odd shapes, he would some day know these as human structures. Old, destroyed and long abandoned human ruins. There were other dragons here too. Though they were all strange dragons that he didn't know and recognize. They all seemed to be staring at his mother, and even him, in strange amazement. His mother passed by them all and not one tried to slow them or speak to her. Infact they seemed to even go out of their way just to avoid walking her path. His mother went strate into a cave in the mountain side and laid down by a wall. Gaulroach slid down from off her backn and onto the ground beside her. She seemed tired and her eyes were half closed. He had never seen her so sad. Gaulroach walked over to the cave entrance and she whisled for his attention. "Son, just stay in the cave for now. You can go exploring tomarow." Gaulroach's tail twitched at this, he was really looking forward to exploring this new place, But he obeyed his mother and layed down beside her again. He licked her cheek to try to cheer her up and actually got a small smile in return from her. "I know this must be hard for you." His mother said to him softly. "Having to suddenly leave your home territory. But it really needed to be done. I could not let them get you. All my children I had to abandon to their fathers in order spare them from being caught. I just couldn't leave another. I had to flee with you while possible, I refuse to leave another son, I need to raise one of my own into a strong adult." Gaulroach looked down as she said all this, trying to piece together what he could. "You have other children?" He asked slowly. His mother nodded and smiled kindly. "Yes. You have four other brothers. They have different fathers than you did. There's your brother Phianix, he is of the BlackSpine clan. Your brother Tartheran, he is of the StormDragons clan. Your brother Derhanus is from the IceSpined clan. Then your brother Shavron is from the Blood Dragons clan. They are all half brothers because I am the mother of all five of you, but each one of you has a different father." She explained to him smiling. "I had a lot of dragons I loved but had to leave because of my persuers. You are the youngest of all my children and I have accepted that you eill be the last. There will be no more running for me..." Gaulroach looked at his mother, a bit confused but he nodded. "I have no sisters?" He asked her, trying to move more towards a conversation he could understand easier. She smiled and nodded. "No, I never had daughter. I had wanted one, but all my sons are enough." Gaulroach smiled up at her. "I would have liked a sister. One I could meet. Will I be able to meet my brothers?" Something grim seemed to flash across his mothers eyes. But she still smiled. "Eventually I am sure. But probably not until your older. Now that we are out of the clan, we have to focuss more on your lessons. I will have no more of you getting 'lost' in the grass again." The little bblack scaled pouted slightly. "But I will still be allowed to go and play during the day?" He asked, almost worried that he would not be able to chase furry mamals any more. She nodded. "Of course, yand you will have a new batch of other dragons to playy with." Gaulroach smiled, it might not be too bad, being here...
The next morning, Gaulroach's mother was already gonne by the time he woke up. He very nearly went into a fit there, waking up with no body nearby. But she had written something on the wall, carved, a message for him. Gaulroach was not that used to reading yet, but un codeing this message took up some time. It simply said that he could go out and play if he wanted. But to avoid going very far. He took no time in leaving the cave.
Dernyastrix sighed as she adjusted herself comfortably in her spot on the cold stone floor of the cave. This cave belonged to a blue scaled named Vahazin. He was in the cave by the wall right across from her. To her left was a grey named Umracks, and to her right was a yellow female named Fiera. Dernyastric rolled her eyes and shifted her body again. "Is this all really necisary. You know it's me, I've proven it's me, I've answered questions none other than me would be able to answer. I cast magic none else would know how to do. I even let you scan my mind. It is me damnit!" She snapped at the one right across from her. The blue smiled. "We know it's you. We just wanted to see what you have been up to since you left us. You have had a few... Lovers since then." She gave anb evil smirk to the falter in Vahazin's speach. "As I have. What is it Vahz? Feeling a touch of jealousy? We attempted our love. Our attempt came with an empty egg shell." "But did you have to go throught with all these?" He spat, angry at her. "We could have tried again, you had promised long ago that we would be with each other for the end of our grandchildrens' lives!" "Would you honestly like to try at it again?" She asked, tilting her head just slightly. "We could if you wanted, although you have to remember that I nearly killed you when you tried to catch my eye, and again when you tried to go through with the mating rituals." There were laughs from the other two dragons when Dernyastrix said that. The blue sighed and shook his head. "No. You are right. I would probably not survive. Doesn't matter, in the years you have been gone, I have taken another mate. I have three children, two fe and one male." "Well congradulations to you." She said rolling her eyes. "while you've been living in peace with your wonderful family in the clan grounds. I have been flying every time they came close and never had peace for more than twelve years!"
Gaulroach leaped up ontop of the largest pile of strange shaped rocks, or ruins as he had heard from the other dragons on his age around here. Gaulroach looked down from on top of the pile and down at the other dragon trying to climb up after him. Another dragon of about his age, also strangely black. He had never seen other black dragons before, but his motherr told him it was just in his clan's home that they were not born black scaled. That black scaled dragons did come elsewhere, yet were a little less common than the other colors anyways. Gaulroach hissed at the other dragon climbing the pile. "I call this one. You should find another!" The other black dragon looked up at him with a blink, she stopped climbing and tilted her head. "But it's a big pile, there's room for both of us." Gaulroach blinked at that reply but thought on it for a moment. "Well I guess you can come up here..." He said quietly and backed away a little bit. The other small dragon climbed onto the top with him. Her scales were an even shinier black than his were. She smiled at him for a moment, and he smiled back, hopeing he had made a new friend. But he did not expect as she pushed him off. Gaulroach gave a squeel as he rolled down the side of the pile and stopped with a thump in a grouping of dirt and grass. "Oh that was not very nice Ebony!" Said a voice, another dragon came into sight. This adult female lightly lifted the other small dragon off the stone pile with her mouth and set her down. "You know better than that." The other little dragon, Ebony, just pouted and curled up inbetween the older dragons front legs. The older dragons smiled at Gaulroach and nodded her head. "I'm sorry if Ebony was a little mean there. She tends to do that to every other little one here. You're Dernyastrix's son arn't you?" Gaulroach had to think for a moment. That sounded like his mother's name. "My mother is Dernya." He said instead. The female nodded. "Yes, that would be her. What is your name then?" "Gaulroach!" He answered smiling. He was rather proud of his name, it sounded so much different from the other dragons from his old clan's name. "Oh..." The female, which Gaulroach was now guessing was Ebony's mother, seemed to go just a bit silent. "I should probbably have a speak with her..." Ebony's mother said then went off. Which gave an angry growl from Ebony who had to get up and follow her. Gaulroach once again was just a bit confused. Why had she suddenly gotten so silent in front of him? Many questions swarmed his head once more, but just like a human child of his age, other things drew more interest and he went off to them.
"So, what are you going to do Nary?" The blue asked her. "Oh just call me by my real name." Dernyastrix snapped at him. "As for that, I have decided to just stay here for now. They can't touch me here any more even if they tried. They would grow all our rath upon them. Soon my son will be grown and he can even help me against the Soul Sworn. I have even given him the name Gaulroach." "The cursed scale." The yellow dragon to her right murmured quietly. "I never thought your child would be the one to be born under the blood moon. Are you sure Dernya?" She asked Dernyastrix quietly. She nodded in return to the yellow Fiera. "See for yourself. The full moon is tonight, is it not? I will let my son stay awake late tonight, and with his scales underneath the full moon, you will see the crimson gem. Out of anyone, he'll be the only one who sees it as normal. For every full moon in his life has been red." She told them. "You will see..."

Chapter 2 Two Blacks, and Chaos
Down below, trees and mountain land passed by. His crimson orbs for eyes watched that land below him as he scouted animals and even other dragons in forests. He looked forwards and slowed as he came upon the clan grounds again. His wings beated harder to slow his decent as he landed in the open area of destroyed temple ruins. his powerfull legs took the shock of landing and left him with no real pain which would have killed a human even at that slowed speed. Gaulroach folded his wings neatly on his back and continued forward on foot. It had been 70 years since he first came here, meaning Gaulroach was now 75 years old, an adult by all means, though still just a young adult. He was now the size of a grown dragon, but not of a full grown dragon. His scales had darkened considerably, though still reflected the light just the same. His tail was now a long and powerful device, longer than some dragons because of his fathers blood, but still not that long. Sharp spines had grown off the end of it and it was nearly scyth shaped, it would still grow more. The spikes on his back had grown more, though were still dulled ends and not the lethal implements he had seen on some dragons. On either side of his head, back near where his head meets his neck, two horns were starting to grow, though they were only dulled stubs now. The horns were slightly curving forward and would grow long and thick, almost in the way a ram's horns are. His legs and body was strong andpowerful, he was a strong dragon, his mother had made sure to teach him of battle and magic, why he was still not entirely sure. Not many of the other dragons in the clan had recieved the training he had. Except though, a female named Ebony. He knew Ebony, he had met her the very first day he had the chance to get a look around the clan grounds. Since then he had spent more time around her than any other dragon of his age through those years. As he had grown up, he had played with mostly her even though she could be a little mean. Pulling tricks on him when she though would be funny, she always wanted to eat first, or to get something first. He did not mind then, it was almost why he enjoyed being with her. Now she was very much the same, except maybe a little more subtle about it rather than pushing him off the edge of a cliff or such. Of course such things were noticed. It was very much known among most of the dragons that Ebony was definetly the prettiest of all the dragons in her age there, and strong of mind, wit and power. Gaulroach had actually been teased before by his mother saying that she would be an acceptable mate for him. He would not take it with insult, and hardly listened to it at all. He felt a little strange how his mother seemed to feel her family's blood was higher than other dragons, and he was her child. Gaulroach also knew she was right about something. Ebony was surely a desireable mate, Gaulroach knew he felt something for her, but he did not feel ready for that and he did not believe she was either. At least that was what she gave off to dragons from other lands that had actually asked her about it... With the more stubborn ones, she had actually asked Gaulroach to scare them away from her. Either that or she would find a way to use some other dragon for whatever need she had. She was very good at getting others to do what she wanted.
Gaulroach entered the cave that was his family's, basicly his and his mothers. He entered and saw her waiting there for him. "Did you already know I would be here today?" He asked her as he approached her. She nuzzled his neck affectionatly as he came over to her. She smiled at him and backed up a little. "I placed wards along the clan just to know when you'd be back. How did it go?" She asked him in return. Gaulroach sighed, a little reluctant to speak. "My father was thrilled to see me again and says he misses you. He forgives you for what you did, but hopes once everything clams down in the world that you could come back to the clan." Dernya nodded and smiled, she paced back and forth around the cave. "Maybe, if it ever calms down between me and the Jarond." She sighed and shook her head. "You go ahead and find Ebony. She's been rather glum with you gone, she's had no body of worthy mind to test hers." Gaulroach nodded and left the cave, he knew his mother needed time to think. After these years, since he came here, he now finally understood why they had to leave his birth place. His mother had gradually given him small hints as he was growing up, but she eventually just let it come out. She was wanted by a clan of dragons known as the Jerond. Some years ago she had actually been of there clan, infact she was born into that clan origionally. They were a clan of dragons in control of human and wyvern races, using them to further then own growth of their clan. Gaulroach had learned that his mother had been sent to retreave an object of power for them, but she took it for her own and absorbed it into her own powers. Then very easily killed their leader and several of their next up leaders. While the clan was in chaos from loss of so many of their higher officials, she fled off on her own. That was some eight hundread years ago, his mother had been to different clans since then and apparently this clan was the one she came to the most. This clan was one of the only ones that had the strength to face the Jirond. He also learned his mother had not been the kindest dragon, she had often killed in order to grow her strength. But Gaulroach did not care for her lust for power, she was his mother and that was all he cared for. She was strong in magics and fighting technic, she had even taught him some of her magic and how to fight. So, with the possible exception of ebony, he was one of the most powerful dragons in the clan. Only the elders and his mother wwas higher. Though he was not sure how he stood against Ebony, they had never actually contested to see who was stronger.
Firad glanced down the mountain path at the five hundread or so humans in full armor and dragon slaying equipment. He clicked his tounge in annoyance and stood up from his rockey pirch. He let out a long roar, as a warning to the rest of the dragons of the clan about this attack. It was all too often that the human king of this land sent armies of these humans, armies that just seemed to get larger and larger. No doubt some from other lands and they were most likely encouraged into it by the Jirond. Most dragons in the clan knew that the Jirond had put a very high reward of Dernyastix's live capture. They wanted her alive for torture no doubt, for her knowledge or just revenge. Firad let out anouther louder roar and smirked when he saw quite a few less experienced humans take to running. Only to be pushed back forwards by the other soldiers, but funny nontheless. Other dragons had gathered around the area to scan the human armies. Then to scan the other things the huumans brought with them. Strange creatures were brought along with the humans, in chains and led by groups of the humans. The dragons knew these creatures as LandDrakes, they looked almost like dragons but with no wings and larger claws. They were stupid creatures, about as smart as a wyvern. Possibly even dumber than a wyvern, they were relatives of dragons but of little more intelligence than a bear. Firad clicked his tounge again and spread his wings, the LandDrakes could breath fire like dragons and that's what made this difficult. But difficult or not, none were willing to give into the Jirond. even without the feud between Dernyastrix and them, the two clans had fought countless times and were unlikely to let things die out so easily. No, the Jirond would want to completely either absorb the clan into them and imprison those that refuse. But they would need more than just some humans and LandDrakes to beat them here. Firad beat his wings and took to the air, he hoped he didn't get hurt that badly. He was not comfortable being healed, it was almost degrading.
Gaulroach hissed in annoyance as the sound of a warning roar reached him. He spread his own wings and took to the sky. Flying over the first mountain crest, hee was nearly hit in the eye by a stray arrow, the human weapon just clanging of his right horn. He looked down at the humans desperatly attacking the fifteen dragons that were actually there and fighting. More dragons would be coming, but his side seemed to be fareing well. Gaulroach hiimself dived down towards the humans, causing several of them to flee in terror as the great beast decended on them. He landed andhis the ground with a hard thump, stirring up dust. Just him landing caused plenty to go flying, his wing beats and thrashing tail knocking them into stone, dirt and each other. His eyes flashed as he turned his head towards a thick group of them, his mouth open and and spray of acid burst out at them. He could see them twisting, and rolling on the ground to escape the horrible burning. Gaulroach showed no mercy to humans, they deserved to feel his acid melting away their armor and flesh from bone. He growled as arrows and spears hit his hide, just hitting scale and bouncing off. But a spear and two arrows stuck in, it only hurt a bit and he could pull them out easily, he still was not happy about it. He turned the way towards the next largest group of humans and his eyes flashed again. Waves of black flame seemed to burst out of the ground around them, sending them flying or just burning them from existance. Gaulroach roared and his heead darted forward, biting into a human's side and pulling him into the air, then sending him flying over Gaulroach's shoulder. The black dragon half flew half jumped at the LandDrake heading his way. Ramming into it hard and knocking it onto it's back. He bit deep into it's neck and within a few moments of struggling, the creature was dead. LandDrakes were surprisingly not very well balanced and could be knocked down with not much trouble. Gaulroach looked up from his kill at the humans who started to swarm around him again. His beating wings once more sent them far away from him. Looking up he could see that further down the mountain pass were more dragons fighting the onrushing waves of humans. What he noticed most of all was the black scaled dragon who moved with perfect twists and claw placement as she faced two LandDrakes and plenty humans at once. She dodged out of the range of the bite of one LanDrake and her tail hit hard at the others face. She took that moment to twist and send her tail all the way to the other's as well. Then as they were both knocked down, her eyes glowed and thick hard vines grew from the dirt and bound the creatures to the ground. Gaulroach was always facinated by Ebony's battle skills. Her fighting style and magics were so different than his own, yet surely as strong as his own. He would have just continued to watch her, but he had his own of the humans and LandDrakes to face.
Humans lay broken and scattered everywhere, the rest had already ran and the clan would let them. The survivors would be given healing, food and water, then sent back to where it was they came. Not many dragons were injured badly, just one or two had any dangerous wounds that needed seeing too first. None of their side had actually been killed, which was thankful, as that was the only thing that could not be healed. Gaulroach layed down in the soft grass by the clearings. The humans who could be saved were being brought to spare caves to be looked after, the dragons were brought to the clearings to be taken care of. Though the older dragons usually went to their own caves to be looked after by their mates or even heal themselves as they were often higher of strength in healing. Gaulroach was not that badly wounded, but he had multiple arrow and spear wounds, as well as a scar from a LandDrake's claw across his side. Well it was not so much for him, even though it bled terribly and was deep, he could still go on fighting. He had fought more than necisary, even when other dragons had told him he had fought enough. But he had refused to stop fighting as long as Ebony continueed on. So he had fought until the battle was over. Gaulroach layed his head low on the ground with him as he let the white scaled female look him over. Her name was Rhia and she was just a little older than him. She had white scales and blue eyes, all made her a very pretty dragon. One of the prettiest in the clan, though surely less than Ebony. "You really should be more carefull with yourself." She said in a musical tone. She yanked an arrow out of his hide, he growled lowly as a sting ran through his body. Rhia just rolled her eyes and set the arrow down. "It's not that bad is it?" She asked, moving into his sight again. Gaulroach sighed and shook his head. "No, but it still stings any ways. You could be a little gentler." Rhia laugghed at this and went back to tending to his wounds. Gaulroach just watched the sky as small stings of pain went through his body as she went to pull every single arrow or spear sticking out of his body, and more painfully when she had to dig in a little deeper into his flesh to pull out arrows that had snapped at the base and left it's head. Rhia just continued to giggle as she went on about it, aparently she found this funny. Gaulroach knew who would find it even funnier...

( Gladly.) Ebony came into the clearing. She had only a few battle wounds on her as well as her enemies' blood. She laughed aloud when she saw Gaulroach who seemed so unbeatable grunting in pain as small arrows were pulled out. "Nice fighting, but it seems you aren't invincible to everything, no Gaulroach?" She had a smile on her face, one of pure amusement.

"Sorry if I chose to get a little dirty instead of keeping my distance from the humans while I fought." He said to her as he stood up. Rhia complained when he moved, but went back to using her magic to seal up the wounds as before.

She laughed again. "What do you think I did?" she said with a snort. Ebony was definately into battle. "Nice job by the way." she said flatly. She really wasn't one to give out many complements, even if Gaulroach was her best friend.

"Do you mean that, or are you just being sarcastic?" Gaulroach asked her, tilting his head.

She smiled slightly, it was half a smirk. "I'll let you guess that one...who knows? Maybe it was both."

Gaulroach rolled his eyes and layed back down. "Oh well. I still probably got rid of more than you." He said to her. "And I fought them fairly. I didn't just tie then up with vines."

She snorted. "And what's wrong with that? Vines naturally grow in these parts and tangle across things that will let them....I just helped the process! It's completely fair to use your surroundings! And if you didn't notice that isn't all I did! Otherwise it wouldn't be fun."

"And I suppose if I used magic to pull their flesh off their bones, than it's just speeding up the process of decomposition?" He asked, inquiring her idea.

"In a way. But in order to do that you'd have to kill them first. And it wouldn't be natural or using your surroundings." she replied smugly. "As I've said my method is effective as well as easy and natural."

"Touche." she smirked. "But they would naturally grow the way they do when I speed it up. If something holds still long enough vines will climb it, by speeding up the process and growing them on my opponent I am just fastforwarding the fact that they are there and the vines want to climb."
