The DarkScaled
Prolog.
Black Scales under a Bloody Gem
The sun rose into the sky, over a horizon of forested mountains. All sorts of birds let out their chirps and calls now that is was their time to fly the skies of this rather peacefull area. But it was not just the birds that made their song, and flew on the blue sky. Now, rizing with the sun were dragons...
Great roars of waking came threw the mountains, as the dragons of this land greeted the warm embrace of the sun. Great scaled creatures with leathery wings took flight and commanded these skies, all entire sorts of colors they were, it was a sight to behold. A sight that very few of the human race were privilaged to see, as no human town had been built within a mile of this dragon clan's home terratory. Around maybe a hundread dragons lived here, even though it might seem insane that such a number of creatures sized thusly could survive in one area, their territory spanned a very wide area and the forests fertility was amazing so no creature died out and none were preyed on too heavily. As dragons could easily sustain themselves on plants just as they could with meat.
A dragon was a strange creature, that is in comparison with any other being known to human, elf or dragon. They resembeld cats in a way, as the way they walked and their bodies were shaped more feline than lizard like. Though they were no doubt reptillian, whether truly reptile or just sharing a few common trates such as scales and the long reptillian tail. While above the dragons shoulders sprout their leathery wings, stretching out with long "fingures" of bone that support the wings. All this generally represented the basic appearence of a dragon, though like the human race there is a variety of ways one could look. Between dragons, they would vary in appearence when it came to color of scales, tail lengths, wings size and shape, and the placement of horns and barbs.
The name of this clan was the GreyHorned Dragons, they had heeald this territory for thousands of years and were proud of holding out against humans, invading wyvern colonies and other such annoyances. The clan was a rather peaceful group of dragons, though very strict of any other creature that tried to settle in the area, any dragon not of the clan were persuaded to leave, if non of the clan were interested in "marrying" the stranger and absorbing them into the clan.
The current clan leader was Narderax, he was a Silver scaled dragon, both his parents having been members of the clan. Narderax was fairly strict of a clan elder, but he also was kind and fair. Narderax had also taken a mate, a blueish black female named Dernya. Dernya was a stranger to the clan, she came to them in the night, half dead and barely holding on. The victem of a wyvern attack, the clan took pity on her and brought her in for healing. It was not long before the elder took an interest in her and they went through the mating ritual. Dernya was welcomed into the clan and seen as a fellow member. Even though no one really knew any of Dernya's past, no one really cared, most of the females in the clan thought it was good Narderax had finally taken a mate. Most had also heard Dernya had even layed an egg. Though she was feircely protective and didn't lat any other dragon, besides her mate, see it.
Each dragon family had a cave in one of the mountain's sides, most only accessable from flight. All the caves, from which ever mountain, all faced towards where the sun rised and the main meeting area of the clan.
The clearest area, just soft grass with no trees to block the sun, was a circle that could fit the entire clan if necisary.
Multiple dragon were in the clearing, of all genders and ages, even a few small ones ran around chasing rabbits through the long grass. In the center of the field stood the clan elder speaking with a few other dragons. Narderax had brilliant shining silver scales, reflecting the morning light. His wings were large and matched his size, and his tail was twice the size of his body, it neatly curled up around his legs. Spines ran down his back and the horns on the sides of his hed twisted right back along his head. His eyes shined blue and held intelligence with kindness. He was speaking currently with the other, lesser elders of the clan and discussing matters concerning the teachings of the young ones of the clan.
Hours passed by the day, Narderax had other meetings with the clam members. He brought food and water to his mate, for she spent every hour in their cave, watching their egg.
Soon dusk fell and the sky was black, clouds blocked out the moon and a strong downpour flattened the grass. All the dragons were safe from the rain and in their caves, except Narderax, who only now entered his cave.
He spread and shook his wings free of the water. He walked over to his mate and started to greet her, when she just shushed him.
Her scales were a beutiful dark blue that shined even in this dull light. B She had no horns on her head, but long spines ran all the way down her back. Her wings were average sized, and he tail was averaged sized for a dragon as well. Though her wings were beutiful, they curved and spread, shining a slghtly lighter blue than her body. Dernya was a fair bit a smaller dragon than her mate, him being within his sevenhundreads, and her estimated only in her two hundreads, though her exact age was unknown to even her mate and just like her past she kept it to herself. Her eyes shined a beutiful gold.
Dernya lifted her left wing and revield the object hidden behind it. It was an egg, though very big, larger than any bird or reptile egg, yet it was much like some large reptile egg. The egg was an deep obsidian, with veins of light silver running through it. Dernya lightly tapped the egg with her muzzle, and a little wiggle was given from the egg in return.
Narderax's eyes widened and he layed down by the egg as well, watching the small object as it continued to wiggle iin shake. He leaned his head over and nuzzled his mates neck lovingly, she gave a kind smile in return.
The egg tipped over at there was the sound of cracking. Small cracks ran throught the surface of the egg, small pieces begain to push outwards and fall on the ground.
Enough of the egg shell had fallen away so they could see movement from inside of the egg. Dernya again lightly nudged the egg with her muzzle, pushing awway a few pieces of shell that seemed to be giving the Hatchling trouble.
The rain outside seemed to come down harder, lightning flashed and thunder boomed, there was a small squeel from the little dragon still in it's egg. But anouther encouraging nudge from it's mother got it back into breaking free.
The hatchling pushed aside all the shells and broke free onto the stone ground of the cave floor. The dragon, as a hatchling resembled an adult dragon in all respects, but it's head and feet were a little large for it's size, and the tail was just a bit short. It's scales were black just like it's egg, though maybe a bit shinier. The dragon had no real spines or horns growing out of it, and it's claws were only dulled stubs, but all those would grow with age. The hatchling eyes were a very light red in color. It looked up at it's parents with wide eyes, it was a male dragon
"His scales are so black..." Narderax murmured to his mate. "There has never been a black scaled dragon born of our clan for longer than we hold record."
Dernya smiled up at him. "Yes but perhaps he takes after my blood."
Her mate nodded. "Yes, he would have to. But still, our clan is of strong blood."
Dernya took out her wing and slid the little dragon closer to her body. The hatchling gave a small squeel in surprise from being slid like that, but cuddled even closer to hís mother. "Perhaps this means something, for his scales to be this color. He just needs a fitting name to go along with his remarkable scales. They are shaped like a humans daggers, you can see if you look close."
Narderax lowered his head to to ground to look the hatchling in the eyes, who returned his stare wide eyed and confused. The clan elder glanced his mates direction again. "Do you have any name in mind for our hatchling?"
A smile crept to Dernya's lips. The rain seemed to dull as clouds moved aside to reveal the full and glowing moon. A deep tinge of red went across the moon's surface, a deep red glow went all across the clan territory and into the cave, though none seemed to notice except maybe the newly hatched.
Dernya put the tip of her muzzle on her child's and turned his head to look up to her. "I will name you, my son, Gaulroach."
The little dragon shivered at this name, and it's eyes once again wandered to the cave door, where the red glow dissapeared as the moon once again hid behind the screen of clouds. Even though it was just hatched, and did not understand much, that name stuck in his head. Gaulroach...
