Darkness had fallen over the skies of Locidedolor, casting trees and hills into half-shadows. The grass rustled and hissed like a snake, weaving in the playful evening breeze. And the moon - the moon was rising slowly over the horizon, majestic, full and honey yellow.
All of this was only absently noted by Venus as she circled the island with wary wingbeats, trying to remain as silent as possible. In the grey light, only her silhouette was visible, but brilliant, curling lines of gold and blue scorched their way across her hide, glowing strongly and marking every move she made.
'Stupid clan markings. Who's stupid idea was that anyway?'
Grumbling to herself, annoyed, the dragoness flew a little higher, arching towards the peak of the island, set a little inland from her usual landing spot at the beach.
Catching sight of a small light, gold eyes narrowed and a lip lifted in an audible snarl.
"Who dares?" Venus growled to herself, moving faster now towards the little shrine set into the very stone of the island. The curling clan markings shifted over her skin, making swirling nonsensical patterns against the blackening sky.
A few moments later, Venus landed with a clatter in the small clearing at the summit of the steep slope which marked the site of the Aperire Shrine.
It was in a pitiful state; crumbled stone littered the floor, the runes that had once burned bright as fire across the warm surface extinguished into little more than useless markings.
On guard, spine stiff, Venus edged her way into the decrepit shrine, ducking her head and walking in the glow left by her own clan markings.
It was a wreck.
But it was a wreck that had been visited.
The flame of a single burning candle set on the small shrine table guttered slightly in her sudden breath of agitation, but stubbornly remained burning.
She spun on her heels again, neck swinging as she extended her senses to search for any threatening auras, notably the one belonging to the feather bound dragon Rafael.
Venus found nothing, and her brow crinkled in unease.
What was going on?
The candle kept on burning, its small flame joining the gold and blue of the tattoos and the confusion and worry lighting Venus's eyes.
From behind a pillar, someone smiled and silently hummed a few bars of a long lost song.
{Just something for you guys to chew on for a while... ^^}
